As a passionate educator, I believe that it is my role to assist students in being fully engaged in the material I teach through experiential learning and relevant assessment models that will equip students with skills for their future careers. I pride myself in creating an inclusive learning environment where opportunities for collaboration create a supportive and thriving learning environment. I have received positive student feedback on my teaching practices through various nominations and awards. Most recently, I was awarded the 2024 Trent Durham GTA Award for Teaching Excellence, which honours “teaching that promotes student engagement with ideas, concepts, and practices that extend beyond the classroom”. My teaching philosophy focuses on four main aspects to create a holistic and positive learning experience: experiential learning, engaged assessment opportunities, mentorship, and inclusivity

My Approach

Experiential & Engaged Learning

My teaching is grounded in experiential learning that encourages students to actively engage with course material through hands-on, collaborative activities. I design courses that move beyond traditional lectures by incorporating discussions, creative projects, and real-world problem-solving tasks. These approaches help students critically apply concepts, work effectively with others, and build practical skills that extend beyond the classroom.

Innovative & Holistic Assessment

I use diverse and flexible assessment methods that allow students to demonstrate their learning in multiple ways. Alongside traditional academic formats such as essays and exams, I integrate creative and applied assignments that foster critical thinking, communication, and real-world skills. This holistic approach supports different learning styles and encourages students to express knowledge through both written and creative forms.

Mentorship & Student Development

I prioritize mentorship by supporting students both academically and professionally throughout their learning journey. I provide structured opportunities for feedback, one-on-one guidance, and skill development to help students build confidence and succeed in their academic work. Through teaching and research supervision, I also mentor students in practical research methods, preparing them for future graduate study and professional careers. I also support graduate student and am open for supervision.

Innovative & Holistic Assessment

Creating inclusive and accessible classrooms is central to my teaching philosophy. I intentionally design courses that reflect diverse voices and experiences through inclusive curricula, guest speakers, and adaptive teaching practices. I also work closely with students to accommodate individual learning needs, ensuring that all students can engage meaningfully and equitably with course content.
